Besides the obvious advantage in crowd control situations and the high visibility on patrol, mounted officers and their equine partners serve a hugely important role in community relations. Not many kids will run up and say "can I pet your cruiser?!" But every single one will ask to pet the horse. And so starts the breaking down of barriers between police and community. In my opinion anyway, for what that's worth. ;-) Posted by Hello
